The WNBA has officially come to Canada.
After a long wait, the Toronto Tempo tipped off their inaugural WNBA season on Friday at Coca-Cola Coliseum against the Washington Mystics.
As the team was introduced to the sold-out crowd, there was an audible pop when Hamilton's Kai Nurse was shown on screen. Nurse then took to the mic to pump up the Canadian crowd ahead of tip-off.
As fate would have it, the first basket in the game was scored by Mystics forward Caassandre Prosper. Prosper, a rookie, is a Montreal native and had a number of family and friends in attendance for her first WNBA game.
The first Tempo basket came soon after, with Brittney Sykes hitting a pull-up jumper for the first points in team history.
