Alyssa Thomas is on a record-breaking roll.
With her first helper in the Phoenix Mercury's Thursday night 83-79 win over the Chicago Sky, Thomas became the first WNBA player to tally three 300-assist seasons.
Thomas has reached the milestone in three consecutive years, after recording 316 assists in 2023 and 317 in 2024.
Thomas finished the game with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Phoenix (24-14), in front of its 15th sellout, won its third straight, fifth of six and moved into a tie for third with six games to play.
The Mercury had 17 steals, led by DeWanna Bonner's five, and 11 blocks.
But this isn't the only record the veteran forward has decimated this week. In her last game against the Los Angeles Sparks, Thomas broke her own record of six triple-doubles in a season that she had set in 2023. That same game, the 33-year-old also became the first player in WNBA history to post at least 10 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists in a game that she finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds, 15 assists and three steals.
With her performance on Tuesday, the Mercury star also became the first player in WNBA history to total 31 or more assists in a two-game span.
Thomas is averaging 15.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, 9.3 assists, and 1.6 steals in her 11th season in the league.
It was an impressive win for the Mercury, as they got contributions throughout the lineup on both ends. Overall, they had 17 steals, led by DeWanna Bonner's five, and 11 blocks.
Kahleah Copper scored 28 points on her 31st birthday, Natasha Mack had her first career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
For Chicago, Canada's Kia Nurse was six-of-eight shooting with five three-pointers to lead the Sky (9-29) with 17 points. Angel Reese had 15 points and 20 rebounds, eight on the offensive end, and Kamilla Cardoso also had 15 points.
In just two seasons, Reese is in the top five for career rebounds for Chicago.
The Sky were 10-of-20 on threes but 19-of-45 (42 per cent) inside the arc. They also had 20 turnovers that were turned into 20 points.
Chicago led by as many as 11 in the first quarter before settling for a 22-17 lead. Copper had 10 points in the second quarter, eight in a 12-0 run as the Mercury outscored the Sky 20-8 to lead 37-30 at the half.
Phoenix led by as many as 10 in the third quarter, but the Sky kept coming back and trailed 61-55 entering the fourth.
Nurse hit a three-pointer to start the final period, but the Mercury reeled off six before the Sky came back, tying the game at 71 on another basket by Nurse with 3:34 to play.
