The Toronto Tempo's inaugural season is complete, but there's a reason to be excited for the first off-season in franchise history.
The Tempo fell to the Connecticut Sun 95-81 in their regular-season finale on Wednesday and now hold a share of the best lottery odds for the 2027 WNBA Draft.
Toronto and Connecticut will have the two best odds of landing the No. 1 overall pick at 29.5 per cent.
The WNBA uses a team's record over the past two seasons in the lottery, and the Sun have finished the past two years at 22-66, giving them a .250 winning percentage.
Since the Tempo are in their first season, they have the advantage of only their 2026 record being used for the lottery. They finished this season at 11-33, the same as the Sun, which is also a .250 winning percentage.
The two teams will have their lottery odds combined, then divided equally by the league. Should there be an odd number of combinations, the Sun will receive the extra combination and thus the better odds, as the Tempo won the season series, according to Libaan Osman of the Toronto Star.
Per Osman, the official lottery odds likely will not be announced this week.
The top pick in the 2027 draft is largely expected to be USC guard JuJu Watkins, if she chooses to declare.
