The Toronto Tempo have shaken up their backcourt.
The expansion WNBA franchise signed French guard Tima Pouye and waived Lexi Held, it announced on Thursday.
Pouye, 27, led France's Bourges Basket with 12.6 points per game this season, helping her team reach the French league final.
“Tima is a proven scorer who has performed in high-pressure environments at both the domestic and international levels,” Tempo general manager Monica Wright Rogers said in a press release. “Her ability to stretch the floor, rebound from the guard position, and compete defensively stood out, and we’re excited to add that versatility and experience to our backcourt.”
Pouye added 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, while shooting 34.9 per cent from three-point range for Bourges.
She has never played in the WNBA.
“I’m really excited for this next step and grateful for the opportunity to join Toronto,” Pouye said in the release. “Competing in EuroLeague and playing deep into the French playoffs helped me grow my game, and I’m looking forward to continuing to do so during this new chapter with the Tempo and the WNBA.”
Held, 26, appeared in eight games with the Tempo, averaging 7.5 minutes per contest and scoring nine points total.
The Burlington, Kent., native was selected by the Tempo from the Phoenix Mercury during the expansion draft.
