Another member of the Canadian women's national team is set to suit up for the Toronto Tempo.
The Tempo have signed Canadian centre Kayla Alexander to a seven-day hardship contract, the team announced Thursday.
A native of Milton, Ont., Alexander has represented Canada twice on the Olympic stage in 2021 and 2024, and at several FIBA competitions, dating back to the 2019 FIBA Women's AmeriCup, where she helped the side to a silver medal.
The six-foot-four centre has spent the last two seasons overseas, playing for Spanish side Valencia Basket Club in the Euro League and was named Finals MVP in her team's win during the 2024–25 Liga Femenina Endesa championship — Spain's top women's league.
Prior to heading overseas, the 35-year-old spent eight seasons in the WNBA, split between the San Antonio Silver Stars, Indiana Fever, Chicago Sky and Minnesota Lynx. She last suited up in the WNBA in the 2020 season.
Over 203 games in North America, Alexander averaged four points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.4 blocks in 11.8 minutes per game.
She was drafted by the Silver Stars eighth overall in 2013 following a productive four-year collegiate career at Syracuse.
The Tempo (9-12) are dealing with a handful of injuries to key players, including Kiki Rice (ankle), Brittany Sykes (foot) and Temi Fagbenle (concussion).
