Marina Mabrey might be a bit tired after an explosive 53-point performance a couple days ago.
The Toronto Tempo star was ruled out of Saturday's game against the visiting Phoenix Mercury after dealing with muscle spasms in her neck during warmups, the team announced at the end of the first quarter.
Originally slated to start against Phoenix in the Tempo's first game at Scotiabank Arena, she was scratched late in favour of Kia Nurse and was not present on the team's bench at tip-off.
Though she returned to the team's bench later in the frame, she was ruled out by the team without entering the game.
Mabrey, 29, is coming off a WNBA record-tying 53-point performance against the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday.
Selected by the Tempo at the expansion draft in April and signed to a two-year, $2.4-million contract, Mabrey has lived up to her billing, averaging a team-high 21.2 points along with 3.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 18 games. She's shooting a career-high 45.9 per cent from the field and an impressive 40.3 per cent from three-point range.
This will be the first game the eight-year vet has missed this season.
