Azzi Fudd's first WNBA season is over.
The 2026 No. 1 overall pick will miss the remainder of her rookie season as she's set to undergo an arthroscopic procedure to address ongoing right knee soreness, the Dallas Wings announced on Wednesday.
With less than five weeks remaining in the WNBA season, Fudd has been ruled out for both the regular season and playoffs, should Dallas hold onto the eighth seed and qualify.
Fudd, 23, made 30 appearances (24 starts) in Year 1, averaging 13.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.7 steals and 31.7 minutes in that span. She also shot 39.7 per cent from beyond the arc on 5.2 attempts per game. She ranks fourth among rookies in scoring, first in steals and tied for first in made three-pointers (2.1) per game.
The sharpshooter out of UConn proved herself as a premier 3-and-D prospect in the WNBA, even winning the 2026 three-point contest in July with a final-round score of 30.
Fudd's top games as a rookie include a career-high 26-point, four-steal performance against the Seattle Storm in June, when she shot 11-of-17 from the field. She also had 24 points against the New York Liberty in May, when the rookie went 6-of-12 from beyond the arc. When the Wings visited the expansion Toronto Tempo in Montreal, Fudd chipped in five threes on 11 attempts as the two teams set a WNBA regular-season attendance record at the Bell Centre.
She last played on Aug. 5, logging nine points, three assists and three steals in 34 minutes against the Washington Mystics. Fudd has since missed five straight games with the lingering knee injury before it was announced on Wednesday she'd be missing the rest of the season.
Fudd's injury is another blow for the struggling Wings, who are 3-7 in their last 10 games as they cling to the eighth seed in the standings. Dallas is looking to return to the post-season for the first time since 2023.
