The Toronto Six announced Saturday afternoon its scheduled game against the Montreal Force had been cancelled due to “a sudden family loss.”

“We regret to share that the Toronto Six has suffered a sudden family loss and will be unable to play in tonight’s game in Laval vs the Montreal Force,” an official statement read. “We apologize to those anticipating the game, however, we need to support each other during this difficult time.”

It was not immediately made clear the exact circumstances that led to the Premier Hockey Federation team’s announcement.

According to the Toronto Star’s Mark Zwolinski, the Six say the passing is within the team family, but neither player nor staff — “details remain private.”

Montreal released the following statement shortly after Toronto’s, stating that the game is cancelled and will be replaced with an inter-squad game.

The franchise’s first home game will now take place on Nov. 26.
