Canada will have a new-look starting lineup for its Women's World Cup opener against Nigeria Thursday, as regular starter Jessie Fleming will begin the game on the bench for the Red and White.
One of the most decorated players on the team, Fleming has been limited with an injury all week leading up to the game.
Head coach Bev Preistman told reporters Wednesday that Fleming was at training and that the Canadians "should have the full squad available for the game."
The 25-year-old was named Canada's Soccer Player of the Year in both 2021 and 2022. In 2022, she shared the team's lead with five goals and led the squad with 17 appearances and 1,420 minutes played.
Without Fleming in the lineup, midfielders Julia Grosso and Quinn will be heavily relied on to orchestrate Canada's attack.
