It took 36 years for the Canadian men’s national team to get back to the World Cup — and both fans and players are clearly not taking it for granted.

From fans taking in the game across Canada, to fans bringing the energy from the grounds in Qatar and players belting out the national anthem, here are some of the best sights and sounds from the leadup to Canada’s first game of the tournament, which was Wednesday against Belgium.
