Team Canada winger Alex Newhook will not return to Thursday’s game against Finland due to an upper-body injury.

Newhook appeared to suffer the injury in the first period when he collided with Finnish defenceman Eemil Viro. He returned to the bench with his teammates to start the second period but shortly after returned to the locker room.

Newhook, a first-round pick by the Colorado Avalanche in 2019, has had a successful tournament so far with two goals and five points in the first three games. After the game, a 4-1 win by Canada, head coach Andre Tourigny did not have an update on Newhook’s status.

Canada returns to the ice Saturday for a quarterfinals game against the Czech Republic.
