Calgary Flames prospect Zayne Parekh will compete for a spot on Team Canada's world juniors roster after all.
Hockey Canada announced Friday that Parekh has been invited to next week's selection camp as an injury replacement for Harrison Brunicke.
Parekh was drafted in the first round, ninth overall, by the Flames in June after leading the OHL's Saginaw Spirit in scoring with 96 points in 66 games and adding five points in five Memorial Cup games to help the club win its first CHL championship.
The 19-year-old from Markham, Ont., has 30 points (eight goals and 22 assists) in 23 games with Saginaw this season.
Parekh was among the notable names left out when Hockey Canada unveiled Monday the list of 32 players invited to the selection camp.
The camp will run from Tuesday to Friday at TD Place in Ottawa.
Canada will begin the tournament on Dec. 26 in Ottawa, looking to rebound from a fifth-place finish in 2024.
