The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to sign their 10th round selection, Canadian shortstop Malik Collymore, Sportsnet has learned.
The Mississauga high schooler obtains a bonus of $275,000, well above MLB’s recommended bonus of $135,000 for the 305th overall pick.
Collymore entered the draft ranked 190th on Baseball America’s list of top eligible prospects. He offers a combination of power and speed that intrigued scouts leading up to the draft. The right-handed hitter had committed to playing college baseball at Missouri.
Collymore is a line drive hitter with good bat speed who runs well, according to MLB.com.
Oak Sports Management, a Canadian-based agency, has been advising Collymore.
