If you’ve spent any time on Twitter then you’ve more than likely seen a few tweets from Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista, who is among the most active athletes on social media.
That commitment to Twitter has paid off this year as, according to Twitter data, Bautista was the most mentioned Major League Baseball player on Twitter in 2014.
The 34-year-old beat out the likes of David Ortiz and Mike Trout, who finished second and third, respectively.
Looking at other sports, Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban was the most mentioned NHL player in 2014, while Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James and Seattle Seahawks All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman topped the lists for NBA and NFL.
Perhaps most interesting are the inclusions of Justin Williams (Los Angeles Kings), Peyton Manning (Denver Broncos) and Tom Brady (New England Patriots) on the lists — all of which don’t even have a Twitter account.
Here’s a look at the top five of the four major North American sports leagues:

NHL
NBA
NFL
In addition to the most mentioned athletes, Twitter also released the most tweeted about moments in Canada, with six of the top 10 being sports related.
