The Toronto Blue Jays have non-tendered utility man Ryan Goins and pitcher Tom Koehler ahead of Friday’s deadline, making them free agents.

Goins, 29, played 143 games in 2017, hitting .237/.286/.356 with 21 doubles, nine home runs, 62 RBIs, 31 walks, while striking out 96 times in 418 at-bats. He was projected to make $1.8 million, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

Koehler, 31, posted a 6.69 ERA in 72.2 innings with 62 strikeouts and 35 walks. He surrendered 16 home runs. Koehler was projected to make $6 million, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

The Blue Jays tendered a contract to their other nine arbitration-eligible players: third baseman Josh Donaldson, starting pitcher Marcus Stroman, centre-fielder Kevin Pillar, starter Aaron Sanchez, second baseman Devon Travis, closer Roberto Osuna, outfielder Ezequiel Carrera, reliever Dominic Leone and reliever Aaron Loup.

The Blue Jays now control those players’ rights and can negotiate contracts with them before arbitration cases are heard in February.
