Wagner pulled from rehab outing with elbow pain

Neil Wagner was pulled three pitches into a rehab start due to pain in his right elbow and he may miss the rest of the season (Jon Blacker/CP).

TORONTO — Hard-throwing reliever Neil Wagner was pulled three pitches into a rehab outing with pain in his right elbow and there’s concern he may be lost to the Toronto Blue Jays for the rest of the season.

Wagner, who has been back and forth between triple-A Buffalo and the majors this year, had been on the minor-league DL with forearm tightness, which can be a precursor to a ligament tear.

He was slated to be examined Friday, and bad news would remove a power arm from the depth chart.
