Toronto Blue Jays reliever Jesse Litsch has been shut down for the next seven days after being diagnosed with inflammation in his right shoulder.
An exam by Dr. James Andrews on Monday revealed no structural damage and the Blue Jays, "felt it was the best course to take the time down now to get over it and build back up," said manager John Farrell.
"The bullpens leading up to spring training, and even the first couple of bullpens, he didn’t feel like it was anything that was going to be to the point of shutting him down. As time went along and the intensity started picking up a little bit, the recovery wasn’t there with just one day off."

VILLANUEVA BETTER: Reliever Carlos Villanueva threw again Tuesday with less pain in his right hand and is on track to toss a bullpen session Wednesday.
The right-hander, who experienced a cold sensation and circulatory issue in the hand over the weekend, described the discomfort as, "tolerable, if it stays like it is right now it’s something I can deal with."
"I still feel it a little bit," he said. "I talked to the trainers, they said it might be something that I just have to get used to."
Villanueva started taking blood thinners Tuesday and reported feeling a difference. The hand issues come after he arrived in camp having shed 31 pounds over the winter.
"I was 236 on Oct. 31, and I saw myself and was like, ‘Man, I look horrible,’ and I felt horrible, I was eating horrible, so I just started working out, did cardio for two months, all the way to Dec. 31," he explained. "After that I started lifting, stayed eating well and originally I wanted to be 215, which was my weight a couple of years ago when I felt good, but my metabolism got fast and when I got here I didn’t even know how much I weighed and I was 205.
"I was like, ‘Jeez, a little too low.’ It’s weird, last couple of years it was like I’ve got to maintain, I’ve got to lose, now I’ve got to eat so I can fill out my uni a little more."
Unlike teammate Brett Cecil, who shed 32 pounds, Villanueva doesn’t look dramatically different. Asked where he lost the weight from, he replied: "It was kind of all over. I lost a pant size, I lost a shirt size, my face gets a little bloated, that’s where you can see it. "
