One of the more intriguing questions facing the 2013 Toronto Blue Jays is who will catch R.A. Dickey and his knuckleball?
Incumbent starter J.P. Arencibia has been working out in Nashville with Dickey this winter trying to get a feel for the notoriously slippery pitch.
Josh Thole — who was acquired by the Blue Jays along with Dickey in December’s trade with the New York Mets — has extensive experience working with Dickey, but there’s a good chance he’ll begin 2013 with the triple-A Buffalo Bisons.
A third option is Henry Blacno. The 41-year-old veteran was recently signed by the Blue Jays to one-year, non-guaranteed deal worth $750,000. Blanco, like Thole, has caught Dickey in the past.
On Thursday, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons was a guest on First Pitch on MLB Network Radio where he shared his thoughts on the looming question.
Who do you think will catch the majority of R.A. Dickey’s starts in 2013?
