For every Jackie Robinson or Ryan Braun, there’s an Eric Hinske or Bobby Crosby.
The NL and AL rookie of the year awards are given to one player in each league, as voted upon by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Robinson won the first-ever Rookie of the Year award in 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers and there’s been a slew of high-quality players who have followed in his footsteps including Ichiro Suzuki, Evan Longoria, Derek Jeter, Darryl Strawberry, Mike Piazza, and Albert Pujols.
With Major League Baseball set to announce the winners of the award on Monday, Nov. 12 let’s take a closer look at this year’s finalists as announced by MLB.
