Phillies’ Halladay undergoes shoulder surgery

Philadelphia Phillies ace Roy Halladay is set to take the next step in his return from shoulder surgery and will pitch a simulated game Saturday in Clearwater, Fla.

The Philadelphia Phillies announced that ace Roy Halladay could start a throwing program in six-to-eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his right shoulder Thursday.

According to the team, the two-time Cy Young Award winner had an arthroscopic evaluation and underwent debridement of his labrum and rotator cuff as well as removal of an inflamed bursa.

The 35-year-old right-hander has struggled mightily this season, posting a 2-4 record with a 8.65 ERA in seven starts.

In his 16-year career, the eight-time all-star has notched 201 victories with 67 complete games and 20 shutouts while pitching for the Toronto Blue Jays and Phillies.
