The Texas Rangers won’t make a contract offer to free agent outfielder Josh Hamilton in excess of three-years, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
In his report in which he cites a “high-ranking” Rangers team official, Nightengale says a contract offer of three years or less will likely lead to Hamilton signing with another team.
Nightengale adds Hamilton’s agent, Michael Moye, met with several teams during this week’s GM meetings, but not with Texas.
“We’ll visit with him probably next week,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels told reporters. “Whatever the process that they wanted to go through, they were going to do. I’ll get a sense of that when Mike and I talk.
“Outside of that, I’m kind of in the dark. I can’t really say.”
On Friday, Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com reported the Philadelphia Phillies “quietly” checked in on Hamilton.

In his report, Rosenthal also lists the Washington Nationals, Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles as possible suitors for the 2010 AL MVP.
On Nov. 2, it was reported Hamilton is seeking a seven-year deal:
