Rangers recall Arencibia for Blue Jays series

He's back. J.P. Arencibia has rejoined the Texas Rangers who are preparing to meet the Blue Jays for a series following the all-star break.

The Toronto Blue Jays will see a familiar face when the Texas Rangers come to town this weekend.

Former Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia was recalled from triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. The Rangers also activated catcher Geovany Soto from the 60-day disabled list and designated first baseman Carlos Pena for assignment to make room on the roster.

Arencibia will be making his second tour of duty with the Rangers this season. He batted .133/.182/.233/ with one home run, six RBI, three walks and 15 strikeouts in 66 plate appearances before he was demoted to triple-A on May 20. The 28-year-old made 203 plate appearances with Round Rock in the Pacific Coast League where he hit .279/320/.542 with 14 home runs, 41 RBI, 10 walks, and 53 strikeouts.

Some have speculated that Arencibia will spend time at first base during the three-game series against Toronto.

Texas signed Arencibia as a free agent in December after he was non-tendered by the Blue Jays.
