The Texas Rangers have signed second baseman Rougned Odor to a six-year, $49.5-million extension, according to multiple reports.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News was the first to report the extension, while Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports tweeted details of the agreement.
Odor, 23, is entering his fourth season in the majors and has steadily improved as a hitter since making his debut with the Rangers in 2014. His OPS has risen each year since, from .698 to .781 to .798. As well, his home run totals have gone from nine in his first season to 16 in 2015 and 33 in 2016.
Locking up the fiery Venezuelan to a long-term deal was said to be a top priority for the Rangers this winter.
