After spending 10 years in the Toronto Blue Jays organization it looks like Ricky Romero will likely be getting a fresh start with the San Francisco Giants.
Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun reports that the 30-year-old southpaw is on the verge of agreeing to terms with the defending World Series champions.
Romero had struggled with injuries and ineffectiveness with the Jays before being released on April 25th by the team that took him with the sixth overall pick of the 2005 draft.
After looking like one of the most promising young starters in the game between 2009 and 2011, Romero’s game fell apart in 2012 as he posted a 9-14 record and 5.77 ERA in 181 innings pitched.
Since that time he has bounced between triple-A and the big leagues failing to recapture the form that earned him a five-year $30.1 million contract in 2010.
Last season, Romero posted an 0-3 record with a 5.50 ERA in 37.2 innings at the triple-A level before being shut down to undergo knee surgery.
The Blue Jays still owe the left-hander $7.5 million this year and a $600,000 buyout for 2016.
