Ricky Romero has learned the hard way what happens when you try to play through an injury.
Speaking with Sportsnet’s Barry Davis on Saturday, the former ace is still with the Toronto Blue Jays organization and is on road to recovery after undergoing a knee surgery that ended his season last June.
The 30-year-old spent parts of five seasons with the Jays from 2009-2013. After a dominant season in 2011 where he went 15-11 with a 2.92 earned-run average, Romero’s success started to diminish the following year. He says that his knee injuries played a big part in the struggles that ensued.
Romero is working his way back to the mound this spring in Toronto minor-league camp and says that he is planning on taking his recovery slow.
