Snider leaves game, en route to Boston

July 20, 2012, 4:50 AM

Travis Snider is headed to Boston to meet up with the Toronto Blue Jays although it’s not clear whether or not he will be activated, a source told sportsnet.ca.

The outfielder was pulled from triple-A Las Vegas’ contest against visiting Fresno after hitting a homer in the second inning Thursday, one night after going 4-for-5 with two homers, a double and six RBIs for the 51s.

The source said it was uncertain if the move was related to the status of Brett Lawrie, who suffered a right calf contusion during a frightening fall in Wednesday’s 6-0 loss to the New York Yankees. Lawrie is listed as day-to-day.

It’s possible Snider is being brought over in case Lawrie’s status worsens.

The Blue Jays made a protective move Thursday morning by recalling third baseman/catcher Yan Gomes from Las Vegas and optioning Sam Dyson to double-A New Hampshire.

Earlier in the week the Blue Jays passed over Snider to call up fellow outfielder Anthony Gose after Jose Bautista was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Keep it here throughout the day for the latest on Snider’s status from Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi and Barry Davis with the Blue Jays in Boston.
