Blue Jays still waiting for approval on trade

The Toronto Blue Jays are still awaiting approval from the commissioner’s office to complete their blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins.

According to various reports, the 12-man trade could become official as soon as Monday but MLB commissioner Bud Selig is still said to be reviewing the deal.

Selig is said to be upset with the Marlins after MLB worked hard to help the team land a new stadium. Despite the anger, the deal is still expected to be approved.

The Blue Jays and Marlins reportedly sent in the paperwork for the trade to the league office on Friday. Upon approval, Toronto will receive Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, Emilio Bonifacio, and John Buck in exchange for Yunel Escobar, Adeiny Hechavarria, Jeff Mathis, Henderson Alvarez, Justin Nicolino, Jake Marisnick, and Anthony DeSclafani.

The deal may not be official yet but Reyes is already rocking his new Blue jays gear.

Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos continued to re-shape the Blue Jays roster when he reportedly came to terms on a two-year, $18-million deal with free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera. The signing is expected to become official this week.

MANAGER NEWS

The Blue Jays are said to be close to naming a manager to replace John Farrell. The team is said to be looking at candidates who have managed in the majors before.

Over the weekend, ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that the front office was discussing former Colorado Rockies manager Jim Tracy and former Washington Nationals bench boss Jim Riggleman while Ken Rosnthal of Foxsports.com mentioned the team was doing their homework on Manny Acta, who was fired by the Cleveland Indians during the season.

On Monday, another name circulated as Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun tweeted the team had called former Seattle Mariners executives to collect information on Mike Hargrove.

Hargrove has spent time managing three different teams in the majors. He was with the Indians (1991-98) where he helped lead the club to a World Series appearance in 1997, Baltimore Orioles (2000-03) and Seattle Mariners (2005-07).

It remains unclear when the Blue Jays will come to a decision on their manager.
