Things are going from bad to worse in Beantown.
After dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday and falling to 27-39 on the season, the Boston Red Sox got some bad news about their ace.
Garrett Crochet told the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham that the lat strain that popped up during his recovery from shoulder inflammation is "worse than we thought" and that he has "no idea" when he might be cleared to throw again.
Crochet was 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA when he went on the IL with the shoulder ailment on April 29.
During his ramp-up back to the mound, Crochet suffered a setback on May 31, which the team called a low-grade left lat strain, and he has been away from throwing ever since.
He had the worst start of his career on April 13, when he gave up 11 runs and got only five outs in a loss against the Twins.
Last year, he went 18-5 with a 2.59 ERA in his first season with the Red Sox, who signed him to a $170 million, six-year contract that started this year.
