TORONTO – The stop button has been pushed on rehab assignments for Brandon Morrow and Luis Perez after each Toronto Blue Jays pitcher suffered a setback, while left-hander J.A. Happ threw his first side session Tuesday since spraining his right knee.
Morrow threw two innings for single-A Dunedin on Monday, but afterwards experienced the forearm soreness that led to his placement on the disabled list.
The right-hander will be re-examined by Dr. Steven Mirabello, the club’s orthopaedic surgeon, and while initial tests came back clear, the possibility of elbow-related injury cannot be ignored.
The issue with Perez, who pitched one game for Dunedin on June 10 before being shut down, is less worrisome, as he suffered some soreness afterwards and was shut down as a precaution since it was his first outing since Tommy John surgery last July.
Initial reports on Happ were positive, as he continues to make progress from an injury suffered collapsing to the ground after being struck in the head by a line drive May 7.
There’s no timeline for his return, but the earliest he can be activated from the 60-day disabled list is July 7.
