Toronto Raptors star DeMar DeRozan and head coach Dwane Casey met with Kyle Lowry in the Bay Area earlier this week, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes.
While the report doesn’t indicate a particular reason for the meeting, it’s likely Lowry’s upcoming free agency was a talking point. The 31-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 after opting out of his current deal last month.
DeRozan flew in from Los Angeles for just a day to meet with his fellow Raptors all-star, according to Haynes, and backup guard Norm Powell also attended the meeting.
Despite missing 22 games with injury in the regular season, Lowry averaged a career-high 22.4 points per game to go along with 7.0 assists per contest on 46.4 per cent shooting in 2016-17. He contributed 15.8 points, 5.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game in eight playoff contests before an ankle injury brought an abrupt end to his post-season.
The Raptors were swept by the eventual Eastern Conference-champion Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the NBA playoffs.
