Jets GM still wants to bring back QB Fitzpatrick

New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan says the team remains focused on trying to re-sign quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, although it also has contingency plans.

During a conference call Friday, Maccagnan called Fitzpatrick "a very good fit" for the Jets. While the GM wouldn’t go into detail about where the sides stand in negotiations, he says the Jets are "actively trying to facilitate a contract with him."

The Jets brought in Robert Griffin III for a visit last week, something Maccagnan says was the team just doing its "due diligence." Maccagnan adds that Geno Smith is "definitely a possibility" to start if Fitzpatrick signs elsewhere.

Maccagnan also doesn’t rule out the possibility of trading defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, who received the franchise tag.
