All-Star Game captain John Scott a healthy scratch for Coyotes

Arizona’s John Scott talks to the media about being named All-Star Game captain, playing 3-on-3 hockey, and how he is approaching the experience.

Hours after winning the fan vote and being named captain of the Pacific Division’s team in the 2016 NHL All-Star Game, John Scott was made a healthy scratch by the Arizona Coyotes in their games against the Edmonton Oilers Saturday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, the NHL announced Scott as one of four captains in the revamped All-Star Weekend. Scott, who has five goals, 11 points and 542 penalty minutes in 285 career NHL games, was the focus of an organized fan vote to get him in the game.

The remaining 40 all-stars will be determined by the league.

The new format for All-Star weekend this year splits the collection of players into four teams, one for each division. They will play 3-on-3 in a three-game playoff, with the winners of the first game meeting in the “final”. The champion team will earn $1 million. Each game will be 20 minutes long.

This season, Scot has played 11 games, with one assist and 25 penalty minutes.

The 2016 NHL All-Star Weekend takes place in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena from Jan. 28-31.
