Blues put McDonald on IR, Steen day-to-day

St. Louis Blues forward Andy McDonald announced his retirement from the NHL Thursday.

The St. Louis Blues placed forward Andy McDonald on injured reserve with a left knee injury, the team announced Wednesday.

Also, Alexander Steen is listed as day-to-day with an upper body injury. He didn’t practice Wednesday, but head coach Ken Hitchcock hasn’t ruled Steen out for Thursday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

“These are short-term injuries. Everybody’s got them,” Hitchcock said after Wednesday’s practice. “We’ve been lucky so far. We’ve got three or four quality forwards out, but everybody’s got that going. We’ll get through this fine.”

Chris Porter and Andrew Murray have been recalled from the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League.

Rookie Vladimir Tarasenko is also on the IR for the Blues.
