The Boston Bruins have come to terms on a on a multi-year contract with Swedish star Carl Soderberg.

In 54 games with Linkoping HC in the Swedish Elite League (SEL) this season, Soderberg registered a league-high 31 goals to go along with with 60 points.

The 27-year-old was drafted in the second round (49th overall) of the 2004 NHL Draft by the St. Louis Blues. In July 2007, the Blues traded the Malmo, Sweden native to the Bruins in exchange for goaltender Hannu Toivonen.

Soderberg’s Linkoping team was just eliminated from the SEL playoffs and since he is eligible to play for Boston this season, he could join the Bruins before the end of the regular season.

“He’s always been a high-profile prospect,” Bruins general manager Peter Chiareli told Boston radio station 98.5 The Sports Hub Wednesday.

“He’s a good player, big strong kid, shoots the puck, protects the puck, good two-way player. He’s played on the Swedish national team with (Gabriel) Landeskog and (Patric) Hornqvist, had a strong line. … Once he gets up and running, he’ll help us at some point.”

The terms of the deal have not been released, but the contract is expected to be for the remainder of this season plus two additional seasons.
