Canadiens prospect Noah Juulsen to miss rookie camp with concussion

Watch as the Montreal Canadiens select defenceman Noah Juulsen with the 26th pick in the NHL Draft.

Montreal, Que. — The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday that defenceman Noah Juulsen will not participate in their upcoming rookie camp due to a concussion.

The 6-foot-2 native of Abbotsford, B.C., completed his second season in the Western Hockey League by leading all defencemen on the Everett Silvertips with 52 points before the Canadiens selected him 26th overall at the 2015 NHL Draft.

Juulsen was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract in July.

Rehab from a nagging shoulder injury kept Juulsen out of scrimmages at the Canadiens’ summer development camp, but weeks later, he participated in full at Team Canada’s selection camp for the upcoming World Junior Championship.

The Canadiens will have 25 players participating in a rookie tournament, which is set to begin Friday, Sept. 11 and end Sunday, Sept. 13 in London, Ont. Rookies from the Ottawa Senators, Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs will be the other participants in the tournament.

Canadiens’ rookie camp will wrap up with scheduled practices at their training facility in Brossard, Que., on Tuesday, Sept. 15 and Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Juulsen’s status for the Canadiens’ main training camp, scheduled to begin Thursday, Sept. 17, is undetermined.
