Vancouver Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis is expected to miss “at least two months” as he recovers from a facial fracture, the team announced Friday.
The 32-year-old blue-liner underwent surgery earlier on Friday, and will now begin his long recovery after taking a close-range slapshot to the face during Wednesday’s game against the New York Rangers. He left Rogers Arena in an ambulance.
“It’s scary,” head coach Willie Desjardins said after Wednesday’s game. “It’s a hard thing to take. He’ll suffer with that for a little while.”
Hamhuis has four assists in 27 games with the club this season, and has a plus-7 rating.
