Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford announced Tuesday that the Hurricanes are close to re-signing restricted free agent forward Jeff Skinner.

The 20-year-old Skinner was the 2011 rookie of the year and had 20 goals and 24 assists last season.
The terms of the potential deal are not official but Sportsnet’s John Shannon is reporting it will be worth $34.35 million over six years.

The Carolina Hurricanes have been one of the busiest and most aggressive NHL teams this off-season. During the summer the team has traded for forward Jordan Staal and signed unrestricted free agent forward Alex Semin.
