With the free-agent frenzy quieting in the face of a pending lockout, it appears one more NHL signing has squeaked in prior to the Sept. 15 expiry of the current collection bargaining agreement.
The Detroit Red Wings, a team that has made no secret of its blue-line needs, have signed unrestricted free agent Carlo Colaiacovo to two-year contract, Andy Strickland of 590 The Fan in St. Louis reported Wednesday night.

Colaiacovo played in 259 games for the St. Louis Blues over the past four seasons after arriving via trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs. He scored two goals and 17 assists in 64 games for the Blues in 2011-12.
The 29-year-old defenceman earned $4.25 million over his last two seasons with the Blues.
