New Jersey Devils goaltender Cory Schneider exited Thursday’s game against the Ottawa Senators due to a lower-body injury.
It’s unclear how the injury occurred. Schneider played the first two periods in full, making 20 saves on 24 shots and letting in three goals in the second period.
The team announced that the No. 1 netminder would be replaced by Keith Kinkaid to begin the third period.
Schneider has a 4-1 record through five starts this season, registering a 2.95 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. Kinkaid has started one game this year, a win in which he let in two goals on 31 shots.
The backup stopped all nine shots he faced to help the Devils win 5-4 in overtime and improve to 6-1 on the season.
