Flyers’ Briere out indefinitely with concussion

The Philadelphia Flyers, six points out of a playoff berth, have suffered another loss: Danny Briere is out indefinitely.

The Philadelphia Flyers, 13th in the Eastern Conference and six points out of a playoff berth, have suffered another loss.

Centre Danny Briere, the club announced Monday, is out indefinitely with a concussion, incurred after he crashed into the boards at practice on Saturday.

The club originally characterized Briere’s ailment as an upper-body injury; the forward did not skate in Philadelphia’s loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday.

Briere missed five games to a concussion in 2011-12.

The 35-year-old veteran is in the midst of a disappointing season for an underachieving club.

Briere, a 30-goal scorer four times over, has failed to register a goal in 13 straight games. He has five goals, eight assists, six penalty minutes and is a minus-13 in 26 games played for the Flyers this season.
