The New Jersey Devils placed goaltender Martin Brodeur on injured reserve retroactive to Sunday, the team announced Tuesday.

The 40-year-old, who the team listed as day to day after tests were performed on his sore back Monday, has missed the past two games for the Devils.

Brodeur last played last Thursday in New Jersey’s 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals, finishing with 17 saves in. He is 8-2-3 with a 2.27 goals-against average this season.

The Devils next play on Thursday when they visit the Winnipeg Jets.
