Max Talbot suspended 2 games for hit on Tlusty

Boston Bruins' Max Talbot, left, fends off Montreal Canadiens' Alexei Emelin during first period NHL hockey action, in Montreal, on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015.

The NHL Boston Bruins forward Max Talbot has been suspended two games without pay for his hit on an unsuspecting Jiri Tlusty during Sunday’s game against the New Jersey Devils.

The hit came at 14:30 of the second period, after Tlusty had cycled the puck down in the Bruins’ zone. He started to circle towards the middle of the ice before Talbot hit him late.

There was no penalty on the play.

“What elevates this hit to merit supplemental discipline is its extreme lateness, and the predatory nature of the hit,” said the NHL Department of Player Safety said in explaining their decision.

Talbot will forfeit $19,354.84 in salary, which goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
