Molson: Canadiens GM Gauthier not fired

MONTREAL — Montreal Canadiens owner and president Geoff Molson is denying speculation his team’s general manager is on his way out.

Molson took to Twitter on Saturday to dismiss talk that GM Pierre Gauthier had been fired.

"Rumours of Pierre Gauthier’s firing are false," he tweeted.

Rumours had been swirling in local media and online that Gauthier was no longer calling the shots with the team.

There was also talk Molson himself had taken over as general manager.

The struggling Canadiens are last in the Eastern Conference and expected to be sellers at the trade deadline Monday.
