The first-round pick the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired from the Nashville Predators in the Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli trade will be 24th overall at next month’s draft.

The order of selection was mostly finalized following the end of the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Leafs could have moved up to No. 23 had Washington eliminated the New York Rangers on Wednesday night, but the Capitals were beaten 2-1 in overtime. That left Vancouver in the 23rd draft slot (it would have moved up one place with a Washington win as well).

Toronto also owns the fourth overall selection. It acquired Nashville’s pick, prospect Brendan Leipsic and Olli Jokinen on Feb. 15 in exchange for pending free agents Franson and Santorelli.

The order of the first 14 picks was locked in last month when Edmonton won the draft lottery. The remaining first-round picks are slotted based on regular-season point totals, when a team is eliminated and if it won its division.

The exact order of pick Nos. 26-30 will be finalized after the conference finals and Stanley Cup final. Three of the four teams still playing don’t own their selection: Arizona has Chicago’s pick from the Antoine Vermette trade; Philadelphia has Tampa’s pick from the Braydon Coburn trade; and the Lightning have the Rangers pick from last season’s Martin St. Louis deal.

As a result, Tampa can improve its draft position slightly by eliminating New York in the Eastern Conference final.
