It appears the North American Young Stars team set to compete at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey has its general manager.

New Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli will lead the roster building process for the North American under-23 squad.

Chiarelli is no stranger to international competition. He was a member of the management team for Team Canada at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics. There’s a good chance Chiarelli will be familiar with several candidates who crack the Young Stars roster, too.

Oilers Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Connor McDavid, and Darnell Nurse will be eligible to play for the U-23 team when the tournament begins in September of 2016.

Chiarelli was named president and GM of the Oilers in April. He engaged in a rapid overhaul of the front-office and coaching staff over the course of the off-season, naming Todd McLellan head coach of the club in May.

The NHL is set to unveil plans for the tournament at an official event in Toronto on Wednesday.
