The NHL will not discipline Leafs’ Colton Orr for an open-ice knee-on-knee hit on Logan Couture of the Sharks during Toronto’s 4-2 win in San Jose Tuesday night.
The league reviewed the third-period hit, for which Orr received a two-minute minor penalty for kneeing, and concluded Orr established position prior to contact.
The incident occurred in the third period as Orr was chasing the puck and collided with with Couture with his knee extended. Couture, San Jose’s leading scorer, lay on the ice for a few moments afterward.
Sharks coach Todd McLellan said he was “disappointed” with the call at the time.
“I don’t think it should have been a minor penalty,” McLellan said. “It’s a very dangerous play.”
The Leafs’ fourth straight win and fifth in a row on the road gave coach Ron Wilson his 600th career victory, and he celebrated it against his former club.
