While Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment has been busy this week, handing out an eight-year contract worth $50 million to new Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock, it appears they may have another major announcement coming soon.
According to a report from The Globe and Mail, MLSE is “nearly ready” to name a replacement for outgoing CEO Tim Leiweke.
“We’re close,” MLSE chairman Larry Tanenbaum told the Globe after appearing on a sports business panel.

According to the report, the most prominent candidates to replace Leiweke include NHL chief operating officer John Collins and John Cassaday, who stepped down from Corus Entertainment Inc. in March.
Leiweke, who joined MLSE in 2013, is scheduled to leave the company on June 30. He announced last August that he was planning to move on and explore other opportunities.
