Senators’ Colin White skates at practice, may play in AHL on weekend

Ottawa Senators forward Bobby Ryan has the worst luck when he plays the Toronto Maple Leafs as he broke his finger blocking a shot against them before and had to leave Saturday's contest after taking another hard shot to the glove.

Ottawa Senators forward Colin White was a full participant at his team’s practice Monday and is on the verge of returning to game action.

The 20-year-old hasn’t played since undergoing surgery to repair a broken wrist he suffered blocking a shot in a pre-season game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in mid-September. Monday was the first time he shed his non-contact jersey since the injury. White skated on the fourth line beside Logan Brown and Chris DiDomenico.

Bobby Ryan is expected to miss close to one month after breaking a finger Saturday—his injury also occurred while blocking a shot in a game against the Maple Leafs—so the Sens currently have a forward spot they need to fill.

Before suiting up for NHL action, however, White is likely to first play for the AHL’s Belleville Senators this coming weekend, according to Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch‏.

White was selected 21st overall by the Senators in 2015. The Boston native played three NHL games (two in the regular season, one in the playoffs) this past April. He went scoreless in his trio of NHL contests but managed three points in the three games he spent with the AHL Senators in 2016-17.

Ottawa hosts the Los Angeles Kings Tuesday and the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday before hitting the road for a Friday matchup against the New Jersey Devils.
