The San Jose Sharks have named Steve Spott an assistant coach.

Spott spent last year as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and served as head coach of the AHL Toronto Marlies in 2013-14. He was fired along with then-GM Dave Nonis, interim head coach Peter Horachek and other members of the coaching staff in April.

This won’t be the first time Spott and Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer work together.

Spott was part of DeBoer’s staff with the OHL’s Plymouth Whalers as well as the Kitchener Rangers.

“I’m excited to work with Steve again,” DeBoer said in the team’s press release Monday. “We have a great relationship and he has grown significantly as a coach in the seven years since we last worked together. We are very fortunate he was available.”
