In only his second game back after a 16-game absence with a concussion, Carolina Hurricanes centre Jeff Skinner suffered a big hit Tuesday night.
Skinner left briefly in the third period after taking an open-ice hit from Pittsburgh Penguins Brooks Orpik.
Concussions have been prominent in the NHL this season. The most notable, Sidney Crosby, returned to the Penguins’ lineup after 11 months only to see his concussion symptoms return after a mere eight games this season.
Skinner was on the ice for several moments before being helped to the bench, but returned later and was part of Carolina’s three-man shootout.
Penguins’ James Neal beat Carolina’s Cam Ward on the stick side in the shootout to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 2-1 victory.
